Tips for using this archive

With first-time authors to this archive, or authors who have only posted one or two stories, the story must first be approved by one of our administrators. We apologize if the wait is unneccessarily long. We do strive for a quick turn-around, but sometimes the real world interferes and all of us may be busy. We ask for your patience, and if the wait has been over 12 hours, please e-mail us at help@jlaunlimited.com

Tired of reposting and re-clicking all your chapter info with each addition? Make sure you have "carry over chapter info" checked off in the "edit personal information" part of "your account".

When writing your summary, think of it as putting your best foot forward. Your one or two sentences will make the difference between someone taking the time to click on and read your story, and just passing it by. Please be sure to check your summary after you've posted to make sure you've spelled and capitalized everything correctly (that goes for your title, too). Also, please do not post spoilers for recent or unaired episodes in your story summary. The impulse to write after seeing a really good (or really bad) episode can be overwhelming, but please be courteous to those who haven't had a chance to see those same episodes yet. Spoiler warnings are our friends; spoilers themselves are most likely not.

When uploading a new story or chapter, if you inadvertently click in the "story text (text)" field instead of the "story text (file)" field, or vice versa, you're stuck with that field, unless you refresh the page (thereby losing any story information you have already entered). One way to prevent this would be to upload your file immediately by clicking on "browse," or copy and paste your story into the text field. Then go up and enter the additional fields.

To select more than one genre or character, hold down the ctrl key.

Besides searching via genre and category, you can also find a story by searching by character, and/or Justice League episode, or author, even romantic pairing. All can be found under "Advanced Search."

Abbreviations of romantic pairings:
BM/WW: Batman/Wonder Woman
HG/GL: Hawkgirl/Green Lantern (John Stewart)
BM/CW: Batman/Catwoman
BM/BC: Batman/Black Canary
SM/WW: Superman/Wonder Woman
MM/WW: Martian Manhunter/Wonder Woman
HG/HM: Hawkgirl/Hawkman
SM/LL: Superman/Lois Lane
FL/WW: Flash/Wonder Woman
FL/HG: Flash/Hawkgirl
HG/MM: Hawkgirl/Martian Manhunter
HG/SM: Hawkgirl/Superman
GL/WW: Green Lantern/Wonder Woman
AQ/WW: Aquaman/Wonder Woman
BM/ZA: Batman/Zatanna
GL/VX: Green Lantern/Vixen
BM/HG: Batman/Hawkgirl
FL/Fr: Flash/Fire
FL/LP: Flash/Linda Park
SM/BM: Superman/Batman

(Therefore, when uploading a story to the archive, be sure to use as many applicable terms as possible from the drop down menus.)

If copying and pasting your story, you can use the following tags (without spaces):

< center > to center your text < / center >
< b > for bolded text < / b >
< i > for italicized text< / i >
< u > for underlined text< / u >
< h r > creates a line

When posting a comment and you need breaks in your text use < br > (without spaces). This creates the same effect as if you've hit "enter." (This isn't necessary for authors copying and pasting a story, as line breaks are recognized there.)

If you've uploaded your story from a .txt file and your words aren't bolded, italicized, etc as they should be, you need to place the tags mentioned above around each word you want bolded, italicized, etc. Or simply save it as an .htm or .html file.

Although an .htm file will maintain your bolded and italicized words, you might notice extra spaces between paragraphs. You simply have to go through your story and delete the extra line breaks, then upload the file again.

Want to change your story's status to "complete?" Go into "Your Account," then click on edit/delete. You will see a list of your stories, with "Complete?" alongside each one. Click on "no" to change the status to "yes" (complete).

Uploaded images are permitted in your stories, but must be a max height and width of 200 by 200 pixels. Simply upload a file in "manage images." The copy and paste the code into your story, where you want the image to appear. The resulting html code will look like (without spaces)

< img src="stories/author's name/images/filename.jpg" >

Want a larger image in your profile or story? Use the following code and a link to an image you host.

< img >image url here< / img >

For a list of sites that offer free image hosting, check here. Offsite linking from a site or account not your own is considered stealing bandwidth, and therefore, not permitted.

Want to reply to someone's comment on your story? Click on your account, then view comments. You will see a list of all the comments you've received on your stories so far. If there's one you'd like to reply to, simply click on respond located to the right of the comment. If you find it difficult to scroll to the bottom of your reviews, please note that the 'End' key is your friend.

You may have already noticed the disclaimer at the bottom of the page. With that present, you don't necessarily need to worry about putting a separate disclaimer on your stories, but of course, feel free if you really want to. ;)

Make full use of your profile, whether you are an active author, or simply have an account here to post comments to your favorite fanfiction. It gives others with similar tastes a chance to see your recommendations, or to check out your site. You can also spice it up ;) :p with a picture (see above on posting images and a link to image hosting).

Plagiarism

At JLA Unlimited, plagiarism is something we take very seriously. In the case of writing fanfiction, it is the reproduction of passages of text from other text, whether that text be from a published source, or another work of fanfiction, without citing the source. If you suspect a work here is plagiarized, first make sure of your suspicion. It is a very serious accusation to make. Once positive, please send a message to help@jlaunlimited.com, with a link to the suspicious story and the original work copied from. Your name will never be mentioned as we investigate the claim.

Archives and Hotlinking

We at JLA Unlimited would appreciate it if you would not hotlink to the stories in our archive to fill your own archive. A recommendations list is entirely different of course--we are only concerned with websites and webpages that are supposed to be "archives." Hotlinking to our archive uses our bandwidth to support an archive with which we have no affiliation.

Second, it is presumptive to add an author's work to any archive without his or her permission. If you have enjoyed any of the stories here and would like to add it to your archive, please ask the author first. It is their work after all, and secondly, they might like to come visit their baby. ;)

What's a beta reader and why are you looking at me that way?

A beta reader is basically an editor. A good beta will check your work for typos, continuity glitches, grammatical errors, and so on. We do not require stories to be betaed prior to posting, but we strongly recommend you do have someone look over your work before you archive it. A second pair of eyes is always helpful in catching the typos we all glance over from time to time.

When you do use a beta, it's nice to make a note of it somewhere in your author's notes, but please do so in the text of the story and not in the summary.
